Marketing Tip - What Else Can You Put in Your Package to Increase Your Sales?

Always put some kind of additional marketing material in your package. A personal thank you note is nice, business cards if you have them, a post card, or even just your website address or the link to your ABOUT ME page on Ebay on the packing slip.

Always thank the customer and ask them to view your website or auctions again. So many packages I receive have nothing but the item in the package. No packing slip, no letter, card or anything! Does this encourage me to go back and shop with that business or seller again? Nope. It shows me they tossed my item in a box and shipped it out.

Marketing material in the box shows me they want my business again – that they have other things they’d like to sell to me.

A thank you note shows they are appreciative.

A business card shows they wish me to remember who they are and how to locate them again.

A packing slip or receipt shows me they care enough to be organized and efficient.

I’ve discovered just by asking my buyers to return and shop with me again, that many of them do come back. In the package, always give that buyer a way to find you again.

In my packages, I put postcards and business cards advertising a variety of my different businesses. On the front of the postcard are photos of some of my items. On the back is a small paragraph about my items, as well as links to my website.

I don’t address the postcard – I do this on purpose. This way, the buyer can keep the card (which has those visual images of what type of things I sell on it) or the buyer can actually mail the card to a friend or family member and put a personal note on it. This gets the card seen not only by the recipient, but also by every postal worker who handles it in transit. I get my postcards made by Vista Print (see link in the sidebar of this blog). Their prices are very reasonable – they do a great job working right with photos you send them. They are prompt and professional and I’ve been using their products for years. They also offer business cards, brochures, flyers and more.

After all this, there is only one thing to say: Have reverence for God, and obey his commands, because this is all that we were created for. ECCLESIASTES 12:13

EXCELLENT blog post! My sentiments almost to a T. Except that I use my postcards from VistaPrint to be my ThankYou cards. Also to give discounts on the next purchase. I recieved a postcard with one of my first purchases and though it was very pretty, it got set aside and I didn't really know what to do with it. As far as promoting in packaging... YES YES YES! Please do. I will even mention in my feedback how disappointed I am when I don't even get a business card in the package. One time I had to guess who had sent me the item. No indication as to the shop on the envelope, or the packaging inside. Then they were upset that I mentioned this to them. Go figure. PROMOTE.PROMOTE.PROMOTE.
